Mini Art Club: Explore, Create, and Grow!
Art Club is a nurturing, fine art-focused program designed for young children ages 4.5-6 to begin their artistic journey. In this class, children explore the fundamentals of visual art through engaging, hands-on lessons that encourage creativity, skill-building, and self-expression in a welcoming studio environment. Students begin by learning foundational drawing and coloring techniques using materials like pencils, ccharcoal and oil pastels. They’ll discover how to blend colors, form shapes, and explore light and shadow. These early lessons help build observation skills, fine motor control, and an understanding of essential art elements. As they gain confidence, young artists are introduced to painting with watercolor and acrylic. They explore the soft, transparent nature of watercolor and the bold, textured qualities of acrylic paint—learning brush techniques, color mixing, and how to express their own ideas through paint. Our instructors work closely with each child, meeting them at their individual level and guiding them through their own unique artistic process. Every student receives personalized instruction and encouragement as they develop their work of art—ensuring their creative voice is heard and supported. Throughout the course, children are gently introduced to fine art concepts like composition, form, and balance, laying the groundwork for confident, thoughtful art-making in the future. Art Club offers a joyful first step into the world of fine art!
-
Painting is a way for children to do many important things: convey ideas, use their senses, explore color, explore process and outcomes, and create aesthetically pleasing works and experiences.
-
Painting offers children a way to express their feelings through the use of colors, lines, shapes, and textures, and even the act of making a mess. Painting is also a quiet and calming activity to radiate inner peace.
-
Children learn to appreciate the art of their peers and are guided by adults in giving positive feedback to each other. An appreciation in art work causes children to try that same style in their own paintings.
-
Learning to control paintbrushes and other painting tools is a great way to gain eye-hand coordination, with a focus not only on the tool or where it should land on the painting surface, but on the space in between.
-
Painting gives children the opportunity to use most of their senses while working with various textures and colors.
They explore through various materials used in art and also express themselves verbally while telling about their works.
